corn
I have 25 acres. 6 of which I can use for food plots. Have had soil sampled and need 2tons of lime to the acre. Have grown winter rye on this for the past 2 years. Question: How many rows of corn should I put in to get a descent crop? How long. It will only be for deer but I'd like to see it grow. I do not plan on putting it all into corn. Also alfalfa, clover(red and white),and one of the deer mixes. I take responses to my stupid questions very seriously, thanks. Terry

RE: corn
You need enough so that it will pollinate. Its according to how many deer are in the area to feed. They will definately tear up a field of young corn, when it gets about knee high. So plant enough to overcome your losses.Plant small plots within that 6 acres, apatch here apatch trhere, so on..

RE: corn
I've neen told you need a minimum of 6 to 10 rows wide for cross pollination. The length is up to you.

RE: corn
I have planted all kinds of other stuff, rye, wheat, clovers, brassicas, but not corn.
I have one 2 acre field that is in its 3rd year of develpment. It is roughly 600x120(not quite 2 Acres). My soil ranges from half-way decent to pretty bad, but I have been continually dumping lime per soil recommendations and have grown rye, clover, and brassicas pretty successfully now for 2 years. What ph level is needed?, and is 2 acres really enough-I have 4 other acres of food plots and a deer population of around 20 deer per square mile. This plot is in the middle of a deer migration trail, so a tall plant like corn would be great-would soybeans be better or easier to plant? Jeff...U.P. of Michigan. |
RE: corn
Lawn farmer... Is there going to be a Huntin Time Expo at the Ford Field House this year?

RE: corn
Hey Lunch, sorry for the late reply, just got back from up north. I don't know if there is an expo at the Ford Fieldhouse or not. If I hear anything I'll let you know. <img src=icon_smile_clown.gif border=0 align=middle>
