I was planning on planting my Buck Forage Oats this weekend, but it looks like we are not going to get any rain for the next two weeks.Looks like a late planting season this year....!!! Hope it comes up in time.

Seems to be the thing this year in NY - always waiting for rain that only comes once a month.

Weird Year for sure.

I'd plant it next week - regardless of the weather report. Good luck

Get it in the ground, it won't hurt the seed. The cool nights gets the dew out and the shorter days lessen the chance of drying out the ground. I put mine ina day before Katrina's rain fell. It's at least 4 inches and growng by the day. The soilstill has some moisture in it, you should get germination.

Farm and Sean, thanks for your feedback. Looks like I will be doing some planting this weekend. Another question, is it ok to put down some 12-12-12 fertilizer, will that burn the planting???

Thanks a lot!!

Its not likely ther 12-12-12 will burn anything, disk it in of you can - or especially without rain - you will lose the "N".

Good luck planting this weekend.

I planted BFO the last week in Aug. I had my doughts about it. Here in centrel NY we had very little rain for the past month.after about 2 weeks it started to come up NO GREAT. about the middle of Sept it looked better but NOT GREAT. Its looking better now the plot is all greened up and looks OK. I was out this morning to check the plot and to my surprise, there where 8 deer in the plot and 4 coming to it. I guess it works. plants are about 5'' hight. still needs rain

3" after three weeks doesn't sound bad -

figure it will grow another 3-4" by Mid Oct. - and start branching out.

The dew in the mornings has been considerable - and we've had some rain -

My "dead" clover/brassica plot has found some life - had 4 deer feeding in it the a couple days ago - one six point.

I'll post a couple pics later in the week

3 inches might be conservative. I have seen up to 5 inches forecast through Sunday.
