BSK; I know that there would be a great difference between a balsam fir/cedar forest and a pine forest. In high snow areas it is a common practice to chain saw a balsam fir for the deer to eat if the winter has been hard.

The deer have been feeding on my small oaks so there should be brouse from the seedlings.

bow27; do you have any water source for the deer? Is there a route with cover for the deer to reach your property. Do you walk through the santuary areas of your bush often? These could be some reasons.

Dan O WE have two small streams that go through the property, they have water except in a bad drought. There is a 2 acre pond. Some areas never get any traffic except during hunting season and thats if all else fails.

bow27; try raking a 5' round area to bare soil. Put about 10-20 lb of corn or seed mix in the middle and check daily for prints. Or get a game camera. On my property the deer have it too easy. They laze all day in dry areas of a 6' high cattail swamp. When they want to feed the most they have to walk is 200 - 300 yds. Most of this movement is under cover. As a result if they have any pressure they go nocturnal.

consider investing into a different hunt camp also.. one where they think like you do and you will have less battles and more big bucks.

NYhick,

As someone early one said, consider joining QDMA. They have some good books and videos available not to mention their quarterly journal Quality Whitetails. Membership is only $25/yr.

Another thought might be to have a knowledgeable biologist that you have chosen come to a eating meeting and discuss the issue from that perspective.

If they are not willing to make the changes, you will save yourself much groaning if you find a club that is managed as you would like to see. It is sort of like eating at a diner that serves terrible food, you just promote them to continue in their methods. The truth is, QDM is changing the way many of us are hunting and we are enjoying the results.

Good luck!!!
