RE: Planting Rye? how late?

eddie, I've planted rye as late as Oct 10th, and still had a fall plot. Mid Sept is usually when you would like to have it planted by.

Rye is more Cold tolerant than wheat, or oat varieties. Its not that winter wheat will not do OK, it is important to have some snow cover going into Dec Jan, and Feb for it to come back in the spring well. If you are only planting for a hunting season attractant, either will do - I tend to favor rye for its faster growing, and grazing tolerance.

You really do not have much time though, once soil temps get less than 60 degrees, growth and germination becomes extremely slow.
