Austrian Winter Peas

Any advice on planting Austrian Winter Peas (AWP). I was thinking of planting them with wheat. Has anyone done this?

I'm in NC near I95 and the VA border. When should I plant?

You will probably plant sometimes around the middle of September. The AWP's I planted came up good, but when they got about 3" high the deer clipped off the tops and they didn't come back out.

Innoculate them. I planted AWP with Oats and Clover last September. They came up OK. I'm still looking for the majic bean. Austrian winter peas ain't it. Hey but maybe your deer have a different "taste".

We started planting them 3 years ago. We plant them with buck oats, biologic clover plus, and winter wheat. You can't get the deer off of my food plots. The key is to buy the fertilizer for the winter peas. did you do a soil test if not you want to buy this fertilizer. I get it at Milstadt Il seed store. I'll get the name and phone number for you to buy sometomorrow for you guys.PLOT SAVER we tried it. You have to put it on everytime it rain and dew in the morning. Winter peas are a great food plot. If you have any questions.reply

Illinois Outfitter,

How many pounds of each of the oats, clover, wheat, and peas do you use for an acre?
