Hi 12 G,I lease 1400 acres that is surrounded by about 2000@ that not too many people hunt, but of the 1400,I spend most of my time in @ 100 acres.I have access to all the surrounding property and there are some good areas, but come rifle season, alot of the deer in the area are in those 100 acres. Its not how big your hunting land is,its where or not the deer use the area you hunt.I dont need all 1400 acres, but I cant divide it into sections, and the owner wont lease just the area that I hunt.If you got deer there, why go to the bigger area?

Put one stand on the five acre tract and put 3 or more on the 100 acre tract. That way you will have fresh stands to hunt and you can have stands for different wind directions.

I have a two acre piece that we take bucks off of every year and have for the last twenty some years . Not every time we go there but one to as many as three bucks a year are taken there . Its not about how many acres it is, but how many deer does it produce .

My cabin sits on 10.5 acres and I consistently take deer off of it-some pretty decent buck too.I actually prefer smaller hunting areas. It's alot easier to figure them out.I'd stay where you are.

IF I HAD $$$$$$$$$$$ i would like to buy a big ole chunk of land in maine. about 150 acres post the heck out of it but let the local hunters STILL HUNT IT and keep out the people from massachusetts.

seriously...
i hunt a old logging road that they come in about every 5 years to clear a new spot. the logging road is about 25 miles long and it goes from swamps to small hills and so on. i could not guess how much acres it is.

12 g as others have said it is not the size of the property, but the number of deer on it. I have permission to hunt this one place that is 12 acres, of that 12 acres I maybe hunt 3-4 acres, why? This is where the deer move through, they bed on one part of the property, but I hunt them coming and leaving that.

I hunt on an area that's about 140 acres. Bow season opened here Aug 15. All the deer I've seen this season has been in an area of about 6 acres. So I think if your 5 acres produces, you'll do just fine.
