How much is enough?
This season will be my first for bow hunting. I bought a PSE Deerhunter and it has 55 lbs. of draw weight. I can't add any more because it's set to the max. is that enough?

RE: How much is enough?
My son is shooting that same bow. For hunting whitetail deer that's more then enough.
Now go out and pratice and good luck this fall. |

RE: How much is enough?
55lb is plenty --- in spite of what the bow manufacturers and "professional" bow hunters say, you don't have to shoot 300fps to kill a whitetail. As long as your bow is properly tuned, quiet, broadheads are sharp, and you shoot the right spine arrows, you'll do just fine.;)

RE: How much is enough?
My dad is shooting 50 lbs and he killed a hog few months back. They have a lot thicker skin than a whitetail

RE: How much is enough?
you could probably kill a deer with 40 pounds, you dont need the arrow to go all the way through, if it just sticks in it can tear up the insides which will put a hurtin on the deer

RE: How much is enough?
i think alot of people are shooting higher draw weight/fps bows b/c deer are becoming more aware of the sound of even a quiet bow, and might jump the string at longer ranges.

RE: How much is enough?
55 pounds is MORE than enough......in fact you can flop em' with alot less. 55 pounds will kill deer, bear, moose, or pretty much any other species in the good ol' U.S.A. And that's not just my opinion.....it's a fact. 55 pounds will blow right through them no problem if your bow is tuned and you hit em' right.

RE: How much is enough?
I've got a friend who shoots 45lbs and she kills several every year with it.

RE: How much is enough?
55 is plenty. My wife shoots her bow set at 42lbs, with two bladed cut on contacts she's good to go.
