Bigger next year? (pic)

I got this on the deercam last bow season and got to see these bucks a few times during the season as well. I passed them up so they could grow a little more you guys think they will be better this year? This is in Al.

Should be, they look to be 2 1/2 or less now. Let them go so they may grow.

Yea both bucks look fairly young, i would look for them to add 10-20 inches on antler.

I would say those are both 2 1/2 year olds, depending on the nutrition in your area they could gain a fair amount of antler size. If you really want to see their potential though, let them get to 4 1/2 years old, they have almost 90% of their antlers by this age. Good luck

Those are nice looking animals and I'm sure they are tempting but I think you made the right choice. I hope you're blessed with a close encounter this fall so you can reape the rewards of your good deeds. :)

Thanks

Me too! I have been doing QDM for 5 years now and the size of the deer, antler growth, and the # of fawns being born is growing more and more each year.

Did you write the article in this months QDMA magazine this month on infared cameras? Your picture is in the article. The picture also shows more of the deer which would give a better idea of the maturity of the bucks. I am not great at aging but would say the buck nearest the camera is 3.5-4.5 because of the deep body. Both deer have thinner necks than what I think a "mature" buck should have, but since there is green leaves in the picture, I am assuming this was taken in early fall before rutting behavior begins. They are both great bucks.

Sounds like you are doing things right over there. I think more people need to take that approach. I like the website also. Keep it up, hard work pays off in more than one way.
