RE: Possible largest shed ever found???
I was very lucky when I found this shed. I work at the golf course and there was a irrigation leak. I was helping fill the hole back in when I noticed what looked like a deer bone. I picked it up and was surprised to find it was a shed. It was at the very bottom of the dirt so it must have been laying in the fairway before they started digging. I found another spike shed about 20 yards from this but it is longer, it might be a match because this one is broke off.

RE: Possible largest shed ever found???
Is that a shed or a golf tee?..lol

Too funny! I was wandering the woods the other day and had the thought that it would be cool to find a button shed. This is just as cool. GOOD EYES!

RE: Possible largest shed ever found???
Bahaa haa haa....
That said it doesn't look like a shed to me. Sheds are normally disconnected from the pedicle slightly below the burr. This leaves the bottom of the antler looking porous and somewhat flat. This antler looks like it has been sawed off below the burr line. Usually if there is bone sticking out below the burr line it is jagged, because it has not been shed as such, but torn away from the pedicle. This one looks like it has been cut straight across. RE: Possible largest shed ever found???
It is quite sad that some do not believe this as being an actual shed. It wasn't like I was out looking for sheds when I found it. I just so happened to look down while working and find a deer shed on a golf course. It is an actual shed. I can't get any good pictures of the pedicle because it is so small and the flash makes it difficult to view. I would think that anyone wouldn't go that far and cut off a horn to make such a statement. I have another spike shed that I found not 20 yards from where this one was and both of there pedicles are the same. They are much different then a larger rack, they are longer and are not directly under the burr like a larger shed is.

RE: Possible largest shed ever found???
I shot a buck that was almost as big as that one!!!:D
|
RE: Possible largest shed ever found???
could make you an antler cal
|
RE: Possible largest shed ever found???
I have to agree with Antler Eater. Unless it has been injured in some way, witch is very possible.
|
RE: Possible largest shed ever found???
I agree recurve....I have found hundreds of sheds and the horn in that pic is a cut-off......not to argue or anything, but it is what it is.

RE: Possible largest shed ever found???
It is sad to say that people don't believe me that this is an actual shed. I have another shed antler in my room of a spike and they both are similar in the bottom part. I agree it does look like it is cut off, but I can assure you that if you can see the bottom of it you will see the little pores and some dried blood on the bottom. There is still fibers around the base, either from hair or dried velvet. If I can figure out how to make my camera not flash so brightly and make it difficult to view then I will post another picture of the base.

RE: Possible largest shed ever found???
BBS, my buddy shot a small buck with velvet on one side and the antler fell out when he hit the ground. The antler fit into the pedicle like a plug about an inch below the burr. I wasn't calling you a liar, sorry for the miss understanding. I believe it was injury induced, watch for the half rack or maybe non-typ next year.
|
RE: Possible largest shed ever found???
Well I have never seen the deer so I don't know if it was injured. Like I said it was broke off but it looks a little funky where it is broke off. BUT I have another shed that is about 6 inches long and the bottom part is the same way so I don't believe it was injured at all.
|
RE: Possible largest shed ever found???
All the sheds I've found are rounded just past the burr, maybe a 1/4 inch below it.
|
RE: Possible largest shed ever found???
NICE
|
RE: Possible largest shed ever found???
i hope you find that monster buck that dropped that shed!!!
|
RE: Possible largest shed ever found???
