gut hook or not

I know that this will probably end up as people reccomending knives like buck and stuff. I am going to get an outdoor edge hunting knife that has a gut hook. It is $50 canadian. take a look at the link and tell me what you think of it.

gut hooks are nice for a clean dressing job, but i like them for skinning, i can skin right down to the toe nails on a deer. it will cut your skinning time in half.
i owned a game processing plant, all our skinning knives had a gut hook. ;)

i have several and love them. It's not like they are in the way if you aren't gunna use it, but its always there just in case. Looks like a good knife- go for it.

I like a 4 inch Rapala fillet knife best of anything I've ever used.

I have this exact knife in a 3 pack (1) gut hook knife, (1) caping knife, and (1) saw blade. This is the best hunting knife/combo I have ever owned!!! I really would recommend you looking into the combo, when I gut a deer, I use the gut hook to run down the belly and open it up real neat without puncturing the stomach. Then i switch to the caping knife to get inside the chest cavity cut the esophagus, and the membrane off of the ribs.

price ~$75 american

The only part about a gut hook is that I have a hard time keeping a good sharp edge on the hook part. Got to be an easy way, other than that it is very handy.

Guthooks are awesome! They are fast, and make it so you won't poke a hole in the paunch. I have been using the same one for 15 years and wouldn't trade it for anything! Mine is an ol'timer. You can get one from ll bean for short money, and its guaranteed for life!! All for around $30 or so, which includes the leather case.
