What Would You Do ?
 

Bow season just opened.

You get all set up.

You go to your favorite hunting spot.

You are walking to your stand.

You step over a new fallen tree.

And there only 3 steps away is a 6 Foot Rattler.

You only have a bow and the arrows are in the quiver.

You only have a couple seconds to respond.

What would you do ?

I would put the bow between me and the rattler and get away from it as fast as I could.

At least the bow would stop the rattler from biting me
long enaugh to get away from it.

Sooooooo what would yall do ?

This is where the nut comes in!

I would have to try to pin it down with my bow and chatch it. Odds are I would get it take it home alive than deside to kill it and eat it or let it go in a spot that I hunt all the time.

Two years ago I took 4 rattlers to work alive in a 5 galon bucket. They made me take the snakes away from the sight.Alot of guys where soooooo skeerd.

3 steps is far enough away that it couldn't stirke you. I'd stand there and watch it a few moments, maybe even try to snap a picture, then head on my way.

I agree. Me being a snake fanatic and having cought them my entire life would have probably tried to catch it. But I never kill snakes so therefore I would have released it later in a spot out of the way.

I would not use new Bowtech Allegiance to block the bite. I would let it bite me before it even thinks about biting my bow.:D Call me suicidal, but I call it dedication!

I've had to make similar decisions several times, although usually with much smaller snakes. A six foot rattlesnake is rare around here. The average Western Diamondback around here is only about 3 ft. or so. Probably the closest I've come to getting bitten was when I was hunting snakes in an old fallen down house. There was a big rattler under the house, and I could see him, so I crawled in there after him. I normally wouldn't have, but this one was just too big to resist. I didn't have to go all the way in, just my head and shoulders to get him. As soon as I grabbed him, one started rattling on a brace right behind my head. Made for a very tense few moments.

Rybo is right, the snake is far enough away that he couldn't strike. I'd back off and go around him!
Here in East Tex, I hear people bragging, even having pictures, and skins of the rattlers they have killed. Well they are setting themselves up for a huge fine! In East Texas, the only "rattler" we have is the Timber Rattler, and it is on the Federal Endangered Species list!

See about catching him so I can show my boys then release it. No reason to kill it, although I hear it tastes like chicken, but I hear everything tastes like chicken. :D

If I'm in snake country I step up on the log and not over it #1. If I were in that situation I'd back away as quickly as possible without making any sudden moves. I got within 5 feet of a pink rattler while on the tonto plateau of the grand canyon back in 2001. I was about 14 miles from the closest road when I heard him rattle from just in front of me on the trail. I back up and yeilded plenty of room to him as I passed.

My uncle and cousin actually had a run in with a ratler in Martinsburg, PA.

I don't really know the full story behind it but I believe they were walking in(or out, I dont know) and they stopped to rest and then next thing they knew there was a rattler right infront of my uncle. My cousin smashed its head in with a rock and they got out of there.

My uncle said he was scared ****less lol..

First of all, I never understood some peoples need to kill every snake they see. The way I see it, they are there minding their own business usually laying in the sun trying to raise their body temp when we come strolling through. We walk up on them, they start to WARN us and what do some people do then? They smash the living daylights out of the thing and then go home and tell all their friends how they narrowly escaped death by beating a snake with a rock. Snakes can strike half their body length but venemous snakes rarely choose to do so. It takes too much energy for them to create venom and the last thing they want to do is waste it on a non prey animal. I just wish more people would let them live rather than beat them with sticks or cut their heads off with shovels.
