I'll go with the guys on the 7mm-08 in Remingtom model 7 or savage. Stainless would be very nice! If you do get the urge to chase bigger game up to say elk, the 7mm-08 will do the job with a good bullet, shot placement and shots under 200 yards.
Good Luck! |

i've got a .270 remmington 7600 pump..i love it..its a smooth shooting gun but yet it packs some serious pop..every deer i shot with it has fallen straight down. also i would recommend a 30-06..another great caliber for deer...

Tidejoe there are only three requirements for the best gun you will ever own, the first one you decide what caliber you want. Second requirement is that you decide if you want a semi, bolt or lever action. Third and most important is that the gun fits you!!! I do not care what brand rifle, how much it cost, how accurate it is, or how pretty the gun looks, if the gun does not fit you, you will wind up missing shots and hating the gun. After you have figured out the first two requirements, you need to go to gun stores and see which gun/guns of the type you have chosen fit you. The way to check this is simple, dressed as you would be for hunting, pick a spot on a wall and quickly pull the gun up to your shoulder, if the gun fits, it should pull up firm to your shoulder and be on target. If you have to pull the gun forward and then back to your shoulder or the gun is no where near target it does not fit. The perfect gun for you will feel as though it is part of you, when you pull it up it will go right on your shoulder and be right on target or very close. Remember, if the gun does not feel natural, it is not the gun for you.

I think the .260 Remington needs to be considered if you are going to consider the 7mm-08. The .260 has alittle less recoil, and with the standard 140 grain bullet is deadly on whitetails. I have one and would not give it up for anything.

To back up my previous comments about the oddball .270:
The .270 actually shoots a bullet of diameter .277 which is closer to .280 than .270! The .280 shoots .284. Therefore the .270 is really a .280- and the .280 is really a .280+ I never said the .270 was an unpopular cartridge, I said the .270 was an unpopular bullet caliber - there is only one other .277 cartridge. Also, 277 being a prime number, will make your bullets wobble!<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle> Hunting is a right, treat it like a priviledge - respect nature Edited by - phuloschit on 01/09/2002 11:41:51 |
