Factory ammo? I reload for all my rifles but as far as factory 150s go my 300 Win Mag likes Remington Core-Lokts. I would suggest getting a few boxes of different ammo and trying it out to see what your rifle handles best.

Personally, I prefer the 180 grain Ballistic Silvertips in 180 grain in the Winchester Supreme line of ammo. They shoot and perform great in my rifle. I always had too much tissue damage with the Core Lokts, they ended up ruining too much meat. I've also been impressed with the Nosler Partitions in the Federal Premium line of ammo.

Barnes X, baby!!! That's the way to go. They hold up at close range and expand well at long.

RE: deer cartridge for 300 win. mag
From my experience, the only bullets I wouldn't use for whitetails with your .300 are Nosler Partitions. I do love Noslers in my .300, just not for deer. I use them all the time for elk, as the bullets hold together and penetrate very well on such a large animal. However, with whitetails, the noslers don't mushroom soon enough and end up "piercing" the deer like an arrow, rather than mushrooming and making the deer's body absorb the full impact of the bullet. As a result, and I have tried hunting whitetails with my noslers after my elk hunts were over, I've lost several deer hit with noslers that would have easily gone down had they been hit with something with a softer point.
