MY BUDDY HAS A SAVAGE 7MM MAG THAT HE SWEARS BY. I RECENTLY ORDERED THE SAVAGE WEATHER WARRIOR MODEL 116FSS WITH THE ACU-TRIGGER IN THE .300 WIN. MAG. THE ACU-TRIGGER IS WHERE IT'S AT. SHOULD BE ARRIVING IN A FEW WEEKS. THEY ARE RELIABLE AND ACCURATE.

The only 300 savage I used was in the early 60's. A savage model 99E lever with a gold trigger and saftey on top. Used it for years. The revolving cylinder wore out and shells would stick and not come up after a shot. Retired it. It did not put the deer down like my replacement though the 30:06 gamemaster. But all I use now is a 10 Ga.slug gun

Great cartridge, the inspiration for .308. It was the reason Savage revised their Model 20 to make it heavier.

By now many of you probably have figured out that I am a self proclaimed "magnumophile". BUT I must admit a fascination with the "lowly" little 300Savage. (You boys talking about Savage guns should go back and read up, its not the gun company he is asking of its the classic old caliber that came before 270s, 06s and magnums became popular. It kinda was the first "modern" cartridge to come along after folks wanted more than 30/30s, 45/70s and 25/20s and whatnot.) I guess its the nostalgic in me, but I plan to have a 300 99 for the occasional woods stand from time too time. The simplicity, the lack of ear splitting report and non-existant recoil appeals too the "practical" side of myself.

For deer inside of 200yds (ok 300 in an open field and standing broadside) its fine. I wouldnt want it to be my ONLY caliber (I shutter at the notion) but for one more spot in the safe...

Yep I will have one,
RA

At one time if you said you had a 300 you were referring to a 300 Savage. Not the winmag or even the youngster on the block the wsm.

I have had and used a Sav 99-F in .300, I have 140 gr ballistic tips handloaded and I would not be afraid to take on anything with it. I also have a 99 in 250/3000 and like it also, I am currently looking for a 99-F in .358.

My father has given me his .300 Savage that he had when he was a young hunter. I love it. It is a fine rifle.

Actually the .300 Savage was the answer to the .30-06 by a company who didn't sell a long action rifle.
