Choices?
Some very good land transactions are finally about to close. I need to chose between the top Swarovski, Zeiss and Schmidt Bender scopes. Anybody have a knowledgeable preference? Low light is the main criteria. I'm leaning to the Schmidt Bender.

RE: Choices?
good luck with your choice, too expensive for me.

RE: Choices?

RE: Choices?
For your shopping list it don't matter. Paying that much for glass is just a vulgar display of more money than you know what to do with. All of what you mentioned are top of the line and of the highest quality.

RE: Choices?
Thunderchicken I'm 53 years old and have worked hard for my money. Nothing vulgar about treating yourself to a quality scope in my opinion. I will probably mount it on my 35 year old rifle.

RE: Choices?
Swarovski all the way. IMHO, they have the best quality optics money can buy. Their tech support was also great when I had problems with my binoculars. They sent me an extra eyecup no charge, but the lady I talked to on the phone told me how to fix them. Nothing wrong with the binoculars except the operator.[&:]

RE: Choices?
Get the one with the best definition. Sight on an airconditioning unit on top a building and see which one show the fire mesh screen.

RE: Choices?
swarovski is the best choice. They have an excellent coating on their lenses and have a extremely high quality process in which they use to make these lenses. I would go with swarovski.

RE: Choices?
I went with the Zeiss 4.5 X 14 mostly on the basis of cost. I had a pair of Zeiss 10 X 42 binoculars, but sold them before last season and got a set of 15 X 56 Swarovski binoculars. I think the Swarovskis have better optical clarity, but I decided to stay with the zeiss scope because I can make my decision as to whether a buck is a shooter with the binoculars. The zeiss scope is great in low light, so I can be confident of taking a shot at any time during legal shooting hours, the image is just not as crisp and clear as the Swarovskis.

RE: Choices?
Suggestion, check out the Leupold LPS. Superior quality and warranty. I have owned a Swarovski PH series and in my opinion the LPS is more crisp and clear, especially in fog and low light conditions.

RE: Choices?
You can get a top notch scope for a lot less than what you're gonna spend. The Leupold Vari X-III's are an awsome scope. You can get them with any recticle that you want these days. I own nothing but Leupold. They have not once failed me in the field. And if somehow you get a bad scope or just aren't satisfied with it, Leupold will make it right.
My suggestion is to buy a Leupold and put the money you save towards a good hunt:DMost people buying the brands you're talking about are only status buyers. Some of the best hunters in the world use Leopolds. I haven't met anyone who's talked bad about them. Good luck shopping! Shouldn't have any problems with whatever you buy. www.leupold.com;) |
RE: Choices?
hey timber way to go on your good luck and hard work, buy what you want, like you said you earned it. the only thing for me is like my stepsons stereo, he could spend 5k on it and i cant tell the justifiable differnce in it and the old "system" he had, but i say buy one and try it, all you mentioned are great, but i don't know how much they would help my tired eyes if you know what i mean. best of luck, let us know what you end up with, and don't forget about your good fortune come sunday;)

RE: Choices?
Hey timber,
Although I've never even looked thru anything as expensive as what you're considering--Got all leupolds, myself (been good enough so far). But I know if I had some big money to spend on one, I would also consider a Shepherd--I looked thru one of those once and it was awesome--set up for some for extreme distance variation. not sure, but it seemed like extremly well made and thought out ( the guy said it was high dollar as well) |
RE: Choices?
The only high end scopes I’ve ever looked thru were the Zeiss and Swarovski and couldn’t see much difference in the store between the two of them. Maybe you can post your question at this web site and they could help a little better. www.opticstalk.com/forum_topics.asp?fid=2 Good luck in your choice and there’s nothing wrong with spoiling your self.
