i use a 30-06 for all my big game hunting, moose, deer, elk whatever it is, but this might be a stupid question but just wondering if my .22 would be able to kill a deer allthough i would never use it for that, but just wondering.

your 22 will kill about anything that walks, flys ,swims, etc. if hit in the right spot. but so will a rock. 3006 = great choice

Never, never, ever use a .22 for deer. In most states, not only is it illegal, it's also inhumane. There have been other posts asking the same question and the answer is always a resounding "NO".

Yeah - a .22 will kill a deer ,,,,,,,, eventually. Unfortunately a lot of deer shot with the various .22's stagger off and go unfound, til the buzzards start circling in a few days. Stick with calibers over .243 and you'll be a lot more satisfied with the results.:)

dont worry i am not going to use my .22 to shoot deer, i was just wondering. you know one of those "i wonder" questions. i got my 30-06 for hunting, that last thing i want to do is injure something because i use too light of a gun.

One of the biggest Grizzly bears on record was taken by an indian with a .22 using shorts! She was protecting her children. I don't believe any one would call a .22 a bear gun.

my grandpa use to use a .22 and dropped every deer he ever shot right in its tracks so i guess u could use a .22 for deer but i stick with my trusty .243

Hey Big Guyo1, do you have an article about this story. That would be interesting reading of a large grizzly being taken with a .22 short!

Well I read that she was armed with a hornet. Which makes a lot of sense as northern indians are pretty frugal. Just which tribe she was part of, I foget. The bear evidently was attempting to enter her cabin, having ripped off the door. She stuck the barrel of her rifle in the bear's mouth and blew the back of his head out. A sensible solution not very common amoung city dwellers. [8D]

One time my uncle shoot a deer in the forehead w/ a .22LR, it's been about 20 years ago.
It was an extreme case, he was squirrel hunting (that's why he had a .22) w/ my little brother. The deer (Spike) saw them sitting under a tree and charged my brother. My uncle is a hell of a shot, but there had to be some luck involved here. 1 shot between the eyes and him dropped in his tracks. I don't remember the whole story but he did contact DNR because deer were not in season. DNR later told him the deer had some kinda disease, I don't remember what it was exactly.

Yeah it will, but not really a smart choice if you ask me.
