Yes it is fake but like a few others have stated, it's from the King's collection where they tranpose real antlers onto a body so that you can "see" what these incredible deer might have looked like on the hoof.

For those of you that want to know, it's the Harold Smith Buck. I read an article in North American Whitetail about this deer and how there was a controversy about it whether or not it is a whitetail, mulie, or hybrid and it hasn't been determined b/c there were photos of the deer after it had been shot. If you saw pics from a side view, you'd be able to understand why it looks like a mulie (and the short brows too). Here's a link:

To me it looks like a diorama in a Natural History Museum, painted backdrop, unnatural lighting. I can't tell if the antlers belong on that body though.
