Peanut Butter
Has anyone used Peanut butter to attract deer?
I have heard some good things about it. They love the flavor, high in fats and protein. HT |
RE: Peanut Butter
Kinda expensive bait though ...
We can't bait here . |
RE: Peanut Butter
yea i use it all the time the deer love it but like kevin1 said just a little costly. go to costco or sams choice and buy it in bulk.

RE: Peanut Butter
A good way to use this bait and cut your costs is to buy the BIGGEST and CHEAPEST plastic jar of generic peanut butter you can get. Go to your spot and pick out a tree for this set-up. Unscrew the lid and screw the lid, to a tree or sapling about 18-24 inches off the ground. A 3" deck screww with a small washer and a large body washer should hold it well. Without the small washer on top of the large washer the screw will just pass through the big washer Then remove the foil seal from the jar of peanut butter and then screw the jar onto the lid on the tree.....Now take a sharp knife and cut a hole in the bottom of the plastiic jar. This will allow animals (lots will visit this) to lick, scoop, slurp and/or abscond with the peanut butter in the now horizontal jar. The larger the hole you cut, the faster the peanut butter will disapear. I have cut the entire width of the bottom off of a LARGE jar and had it last 4 days in an area with pretty high traffic. If you cut a hole as small as 2 1/2" in diameter you will keep them coming back for a long time cause they have to work pretty hard to "tongue" the peanut butter out.
I haven't found it to be a lot more effective than other forms of bating though...just another tool to use. |

RE: Peanut Butter
The best part of this type of baiting is you don't need to carry a lunch into the woods! A plastic spoon and your all set!
|
RE: Peanut Butter
Heard about it once or twice but never tried. Guess ill have to give it a go
|
RE: Peanut Butter
www.deerx.com even makes a supplement for deer that is peanut butter flavoring. They claim it attracts deer. I cant say one way or another.
|
RE: Peanut Butter
I have used it and it works well for me
|
RE: Peanut Butter
Peanut butter does work..if you use it a good or 3 days before you hunt ..it seems to bring them in.,.'i've seen it's effects,,rubbing it all along the tree's.. (they cam't resist it)
..Hey.. i have stood there, cooking dinner at my camp site in the evening after applying peanut butter,,and i'm looking at ,what i've put out there, and i'm thinking"My Gawd,,that really works" |
RE: Peanut Butter
must work great my son put some out for the birds in the morning and by the time i got home in the after noon it was gone with what looked like the whole herd of foot prints in the snow all around it.Go figure i'm spending hours out in the woods with not much luck and they are coming right up next to my house when i'm not there.

RE: Peanut Butter
i tried the 3lb. bucket from shoprite. i think it goes for like 5$ on sale. i tied the bucket handle to a string and hung it 3 foot from the ground. the racoons must have got into it and ripped it to the ground and emptied the bucket in like 3 days. you should have seen the strange colored messy poo they left behind. that will teach them[&:] tried small dollar store jars and the deer didnt seem to like it much. it was like 15 degrees out that week so maybe it was more like an ice pop:D

RE: Peanut Butter
I have heard this also, buy the cheapest one and screw the cap to the tree, works like a charm!!;) Has anyone heard of using vanilla as an
attractant for deer?? I have heard it works as a cover scent as well as an attractant. |
RE: Peanut Butter
I have used vanilla for bear and it works great. I have never had a deer come in to vanilla...
Have many of you actually shot deer on Peanut Butter? |
RE: Peanut Butter
NEWS FLASH!
I tried out some peanut butter now that our deer seasons are over to avoid a baiting charge . I screwed the jar to a nearby tree , and guess what I caught ? CARDEER ! ;)![]() ![]() ![]() |
RE: Peanut Butter
I'v used peanut butter last season. The one thing you have to worry about is other animals eating it also. i mean you can't stop it from happening but they might eat more than the deer you hunting.
|
RE: Peanut Butter
I think they would get it at night.
|
RE: Peanut Butter
Thanks for the tip . I'll give it a try next year.
