Illinois is the best I've seen for a shot at a trophy. Not only have I seen many many nice racked bucks every year up there but on each of my last two trips I have seen a buck from my treestand that would gross score above 180. And heck I'm hunting in the southern half of Illinois. The west central section is the area thats known for being lousy with monsters.

For shear numbers and a long season that allows you to kill a buck and a doe per day all season long I have to give a shot out to my home state of Alabama. We have 1.5 million deer in Alabama. Thats half as many deer as the whole state of Texas in a state one third the size. Bow season comes in Oct 15th. It's joined by gun season Nov 20th and they both continue to the end of January. No you won't threaten any world records with the bucks you kill here, although they are a little bigger than some people think. If however, you like to be able to hunt a lot and keep the freezer packed with deer meat, we're your state.

I choose Texas, but not just for the numbers or racks. Hunting in Texas is like hunting 3 or 4 different states. Desert, Hill country Pineywoods, South Texas brush country, open plains. It is truly a unique place to live, hunt, fish and raise a family. Sorry, I'm not trying to brag, but you really have to try it to understand.
