Ohio hunters have set a new record, taking 217,301 deer during the 2004-2005 hunting season. Additional records were set during the muzzleloader, archery and youth hunting seasons, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife.
The total number of deer harvested in surrounding counties were: 2,090 in Huron County, 716 in Erie County, 242 in Ottawa County, 564 in Sandusky County, 998 in Lucas County, 1,593 in Seneca County and 734 in Wood County.
"Ohio's deer herd is very important to our state," said Steven A. Gray, chief of the Division of Wildlife.
"Deer are enjoyed by many Ohioans who hunt deer or simply enjoy seeing these magnificent animals."
From the opening day of the deer-archery season in October, Ohio hunters were on a record-setting pace. Young hunters set a new mark in the second year of the state's two-day youth deer-gun season with 6,673 deer killed.
During the four-day statewide muzzleloader season, hunters took a record 27,749 deer. Hunters also exceeded the record for deer taken during the archery season, Oct. 2 to Jan. 31, with 57,198. A total of 125,681 deer were killed during the popular one-week deer gun season.
A record trophy buck was recognized with Warren County bow hunter Brad Jerman shooting a buck that scored 201 1/8 in the typical (symmetrical antlers) category of the Buckeye Big Bucks Club. Jerman's deer tied the score of a buck taken in 1986 in Clark County by William Kontras.
Deer hunting contributes an estimated $266 million to Ohio's economy each year and helps to support thousands of jobs.
Venison is delicious and nutritious meat, low in fat and cholesterol.
It is the number one wild game served by hunters in Ohio. Deer hunters also contribute thousands of pounds of venison to organizations that help feed less-fortunate Ohio residents through special programs.

To late for me, I managed to hit a yearling spike last night with my truck. Tore the hell outta the front right bumper and put a nice dent in the side of the door. The best part is I have a 1000$ deductable and it did about 700$ worth of damage, and better yet, comprehensive won't cover it. Sooo, I'm out 700$ from one deer....Next year I plan to take my season limit of 10 does as fast as possible, It's rediculous the state DNR only allows like 10 or so doe days in Northern GA, I've already wrote a nice letter to them saying they ought to make it year round, instead of whining "Oh my gosh, what should we do about this deer problem"....

Well Monday I'm gonna head on down to State Farm and scream at them some more, I'm only 16 so I have pretty cheap insurence, which I dunno if that has something to do with me not being covered by that or what....

Mike01,
I would definately talk to your agent. A deer hit should be a comp claim and that should carry a lower deductable. My thoughts are that if the State "owns" the deer herd, (they sure do act like it!) they should be responsible for paying for my car when one of "their deer" damages it!

Well, that's exactly what my father had said, Saying that the DNR ought to pay for it considering they haven't done a thing to fix this problem, aisde from adding a hefty 10 WHOLE DOE DAYS.....like that's supposed to help. Anyway, that's what they did to avoid lawsuits.

I have State Farm and didn't have to pay any deductible for my deer/truck collision. They said it was an act of God and no deductible was necessary.
