.243 is capable of killing deer just fine if you make sure to take good shots. The 270 really isn't that much easier on yer shoulder, so I'd opt for the .243. I killed my first deer with one, hit it in the neck/spine and dropped it right on spot. I really like the .243, you can shoot it all day without any problem, and plentiful ammo.

both the 243 and 270 are awsome deer calibers but Have u ever considered a 260 rem? I just got one, never got to try it out yet but i think it is going to be a deadly deer gun

.243 is more versital when it comes to north american game. From gnats to elk, it will do it to it. Even though it shouldnt be tried on elk.

Jaybird, one of my friends uses the 260 Rem. Drops deer very well, just as powerful if not more than the 7mm-08.

To your question.... .270, but .243 95 or 100gr will do the job if you make a good head or neck shot.

HI EVERYONE.
I THINK DEER RIFLE I S ONE YOU CAN PLACE GOOD KILL SHOTS WITH I HAH KILLED DEER WITH EVERY RIFLE CAL I OWN DOWN TO MARLIN 357 RIFLE. CAL IS PERSONS CHOICE. THE 30 CAL IS GOOD BECAUSE YOU CAN SHOOT FROM 90 GRAIN BULET UP TO 220. YOU CAN USE SAY 30-06 FOR CROWS TO BEAR USING SAME RIFLE, BECOMMING GOOD SHOT WIH IT. I CAN DRIVE TACKS WITH LOT OF MY RELOADS, I DO HEAD SHOTS ON MY STANDING DEER. AND YOU ALL CAN, JUST BY PRACTISE. HEAD SPACE VERY IMPORTAINT IN RELOADING. CAL YOUR CHOICE JUST SOOT THE RIFEL. GOOD HUNTING, "BUNS" TAKE YOUR CHILDREN UNTING, INSTEAD OF HUNTING YOUR CHILDREN. DON'T BUY HUNTING LICE. OR DOE TAGS IN PA THIS YEAR HELP THE HERD GET BACK.

the herd is fine don't worry if we don't get the job done they will hire people to do it and trust me that meat will taste better in your freazer

i love my 243 but after shooting 7 deer with it "all ran 20-75 yards" i decided to try my 270 i liked it a lot and took two does with it but it didn't preform any better or worse then the 243. in fact i took a shot on a very large doe that was quatering towards me and the shot entered the neck and came out in the far shoulder and she ran about 10 yards without leaving much blood. and i would have expected the 243 to perform just as well.

now i have killed about 14 deer with my 243 and i found the 100gr. core lokts work the best for me. i didn't like the way the 100 federal classic softpoints performed though. the bullets would always fragment when hitting the slightest bone.

hope you like your new toy!

i personally like the .243 (could be cause it doesn't kick as hard) and mine is balanced better than most .270's that i've tried!

I'd use the .270 incase of longer shots.
