RE: .243 or .270 which is best for deer

I don't know zrex my 25-06 is a pretty darn good shooting round. my son has kind of taken it over from his 700 youth 243. now that little youth 243 is a VERY good shooter. it has taken many deer for it's life and will for sure take more.
As i said earlier get one of each!
But for me i tend to take my 700 in 270 or my model 7 in 308 more than any other that i have. just personal preference i guess.:D

Niether the 270 nor the 25-06 lacks accuracy or consistancy. My 25-06 is every bit as accurate as my 243 varmit gun.

I have really enjoyed my 270 this season. Shooting just regular 130 GR core-lokt, all deer I have shot dropped in their tracks. I even lucked up and dropped one in thick brush. I say lucked up because I realized that the 270 round seems to not be a brush buster at all. This is a consideration in many of the places I hunt here in South Ms.

I bought a .244 in 1956, a trade in from a fellah that read and belived all the gunwriter hype about needin' a 100 grain bullet. At the time Remington loaded a 90 Corelokt that killed deer for me like lightining. My Dad took it over when I bought a lefthanded Savage .243 after I got out of the Navy. We continued to load that bullet until Remington discontinued it shortly after renaming their cartridge 6mm.
We both searched for a replacement, he settled on the 85 grain Sierra and used it for every thing he shot at, ground hogs to whitetails. I ended up usin' the 87 grain Hornady inter locked spire point. While the 95/100 grain bullets work ok, they don't get you nothing you can't get by careful bullet placement.

Not really a lot of difference in a .270 and a .30-06. The .243 will definitely handle any deer in North America if you are wanting a smaller caliber.
Ditto...;)
