RE: Neck Shots on Deer Always Drop Them Cold?

I do take neck shots occasionally. It depends on the situation. Every time has been with my 25-06 from a stand with a rock solid shooting rail and distances of less than 50 yards. It is actually a varmint riffle and highly accurate. I occasionally shoot crows with it at aprox. 120yards if they land on the corn pile. It may ruin my hunt, but I hate crows. Back to the point, under the right circumstances and with good equipment it is a humane way to harvest deer. It should never be a rushed shot however. If I don’t have plenty of time to control my breathing and wait for the animal to get into a good position where I’m comfortable hitting either 6th or 7th vertebra, it is a no go. Other than that, all my rounds are heart-lung shots. Why anyone would “texas heart shoot” a deer is beyond my comprehension. What a nasty smell and mess while ruining the tenders as well.
