RE: Acres per Deer Hunter

Based on your description of the property and they style that most of your hunters use I I think you'll be ok with 8 hunters. I would try to limit it at that number. Remember every one is not going to be there every day during the season, even during peak season so as long as a member is not going to be there then a guest or two shouldn't be a problem. My guess is the days that you will have problems will be opening day and the weekends, since most people take opening day off and don't work weekends. I think AJ52's idea in an earlier post was excellent. Make a map put it on a board and require each hunter to tag what stand that he will be in that day. If you move either go back to the map and retag or it might not be a bad idea to require everyone to wear 2-way radios and headsets. I think Walkers Game Ear even has a 2-way radio built into one of there devices. The GMRS radios get pretty decent reception in the woods. That way when changing stands you could approach a stand and make sure it was ok, long before you disturbed another hunter. It would also be a nice safety feature when stalking or in the case some one falls and hurts themselves.

We try to keep to 100-150 acres per hunter in bow season and hunt with
a bit lighter pressure than that in gun season. Thats with about 30-35% of our ground being in timber.
