My First Buck in 2004

Hey all,
I don't frequent the boards much any more since I am in school and am usually busy with work, but today I got the time for a couple hours this afternoon to post pics of my first ever buck after 7 years of hunting deer. I live in Arkansas, but I killed him this year in Kansas on my uncle's farm on Dec. 10th. I originally only had a doe tag, but a friend of my uncle in KS had a Non-resident Buck tag that he transferred to me for free because he couldn't use it! I made sure to give him a BIG thank you! I saw him that morning moving out of his bedding area, and then went back and got him in the last 5 minutes of shooting light, while he was moving back into his bedding area. He dressed at approx. 220 lbs and was an 8pt with a unique rack, as his right G1 is split (I think that is the G1-not sure), and he had 18-inch inside spread. Anyways, I was so excitied because I had surgery on my knee on October 4th because of a bone infection which took away my whole bow season and gun season in arkansas. That was actually the 1st day that I was able to walk w/o crutches!! Unfortunately, my unlce and brother-in-law had to drag him out for me since I was still cripple:D, and my brace is actually on my right leg under my camo pants. My Brother-in-law missed one two times as big as this guy, and we could only count 12 points from 440 yds, so we don't really know how big he was, but he just wasn't skilled enough to make that shot, as I will probably never be able to make a shot that far, but it was a clean miss. Here are the pics, and I am very pleased with my 1st buck! I will be hard pressed to ever take one bigger here in AR!

Does anyone know approx. what this buck would score? I have no idea how to score bucks and the taxidermist that I took this one to told me that 8 pts usually don't score very high because they just don't have enough tines. He told me this one looked like it might score 110-120. I am just curious? When I get it back I might look up how to score it, and then give it a try.

A very nice, mature buck - Congratulations!

It will not score well - but don't let that bother you in the least! Its a heck of a buck!

The B&C scoring system penalizes for assymetry. The double brow and the non matching points off the main beam will bring it down around 100 B&C but it might Gross near 130. It might score better as a Non-Typical - it needs over 15" of "odd" points to be scored as a non-typical.

But who cares about score - especially with a truly worthy trophy like you have taken.

Thanks for posting.

I like how big his bases are. He has good length on his points, he has great character. I would guess his score to be around 140 without deductions, and with deductions I would guess around 128. I am no pro at this so don't hold me to it. Like some one said earlier, score does not matter that is a tremendous buck!!!!!!!!!!!!!
