shell length

How much difference is there as far as effective range and knock down power between a 3 inch sabot and a 2 3/4 inch sabot? I've been shooting 3 inchers but i'm going group hunting this weekend and the 2 3/4 quarter would let me put an extra shell in my model 870. What do you guys think?

I shoot a 2 3/4 brenneke rifled slug out of my 12. Blasts a BIG whole and literally knocks them down. I don't see an issue at all. Seems to be a thing with getting bigger shells. I have only ever shot 2 3/4 because that's what I was sold by the gunshop my first trip there. Never had a problem with power.

The 2 3/4's will group nicely at 100yds no problem.

How dose the 2 3/4" shell group and if good you will have to resight in .
1 shot extra so what In ohio we are limited to 3 total shots in a shotgun.
The first shot is the 1 that should hit .
I read a survey that 1 shot probely got it.
2 shots maybe got it
3 shots good chance 3 misses
4 or more spray and pray

Worry more about making #1 count.

There are too many variables to answer your question. There are 2.75" sabots that go faster than some 3" ammo.

I do think you should shoot the fastest round that meets your accuracy requirements. I would not switch ammo, just to gain capacity.

Powder amount and its type, weight of bullet and accuracy within the gun and the type of ammunition is what counts. I thought the magnum 2 3/4" loads and 3" magnum loads had the same charge in most shells, but I may be mistaken.

I use lightfield exp's in 2 3/4" and 3" lighfield commanders .....the 3" has a lighter slug & more powder , which made my shots flatten out a tad.
