Whats The Best Time Of Day For Stalking Deer ?
 

I don't have a tree stand and probbly won't get one till next year.

So I have to still hunt or stalk.

Since I have to hunt on public land and can't make a blind.

What time of day is good for stalking or still hunting Deer ?

What I am doing isn't doing to hot.

Or it might be that theres so many people walking around that the deer are gone to Nocturnal.

They say you cant make blinds from natural materials or whatever, but I had game wardens walk right up to my blind, that i was sitting in and just told me to be careful. So if ya dont want to buy a tree stand find old logs and sticks and find a few tree's together and put the logs and sticks against the tree's to make a blind.

The problem with hunting public land is first of all, some of the hunters might not be as safe as you think. Wear tons of orange. Secondly, there is alot of human traffic in the woods putting pressure on the deer. The deer will be easily spooked. I guess the trick for you is to try to plan on where the deer will go when they are pushed or spooked. I have sat in natural blinds (nothing more than a large oak that had fallen from the wind) and had deer walk right by me. I knew where the bedding/safe area was for the deer (cedar thicket) and tried to intercept them as they traveled to and from. If your thinking about stalking, bear in mind where the other hunters are in relation to where your planning on stalking. I usually stalk when the winds are high or raining fairly hard. This tends to keep deer either in their bedding areas or very close to them. When conditions like this do occur, alot of hunters pack it up for the day or at least until it stops.

One more thing, concentrate on food sources. If you can, find a travel route from the bedding area to the feeding area that is well used and give it a try, it should produce something for you.

I would not try stalking deer. i have tried many many times.. never once got it. Try still hunting in the mornings and evenings..

You can get a ground blind for less that $100. I use mine all the time ....carry pack has straps & it pops up in like 5 seconds. Great in the rain and has pegs for windy days. I pin my vest to the blind so ppl know I'm there.The only thing I got while ( attempting to ) stalking deer was tired.

IF everyone else is walking around why dont you just sit still and let them push the deer to ya!:eek: If you was hunting private property i would tell you to stalk them during the time they move, so they are moving more than you and you can run right into one of em
