My First Buck.....

RE: My First Buck.....
Hey, congratulations! I'm still trying to get my first whitetail, period, and I can almost imagine how good it must've felt to shoot you first buck.
I think your antler restrictions are the right thing to do (and it's your own property--only you have the power to manage it according to your goals). I don't have a problem with killing any deer so long as you use/donate it, but I think there's definitely some wisdom is letting the younger ones have a chance to mature and reproduce.

Nice Buck!!
I like your thinking on the antler restrictions. We started doing the same thing about 5 years ago w/o the penalty, and this year we shot 6 buck, 5 of them are 8 point 16" spread and larger. The one smaller buck was shot by a cousin who was harvesting his first buck. We now discuss possibly letting the 16-18" spread class pass and hopefully take a step to the next class of buck. If your interested below is a link to three of our buck this year.

Hey Congratulations on your buck man
You and your huntin' crew are doing the right thing in my book by letting the younger deer walk, it can only help your success and your herd in my opinion. Also keep takin' does so that your ratio doesn't get outta whack.
