I'm guessing it was made by a chupacabra. Be careful they will scare you pretty good if you sneak up on one.

Got a big boy near my stand that has two 5" cedars and two 3" poplars looking like that. They all go up to about chest high in the trees. Saw a buck that will probably go about 175-180" in the area last week. I think they're his.

RE: Is this a buck rub or a Tasmanian Devil? (pic)
I found this rub about 20 yards off a path in some thick brush. Does anyone think there is a chance this could be something besides a deer?

RE: Is this a buck rub or a Tasmanian Devil? (pic)
The pictures make me wonder how a big buck would make that rub with the other saplings being so close to the tree that was rubbed. Shouldn't there be some marks on the closest tree on the right? I think it's kind of odd.
Do you have any neighbors who might have been playing a prank and made that rub themselves? |
RE: Is this a buck rub or a Tasmanian Devil? (pic)
yeah I thought it was odd the way none of the others were even touched and that one tree was mutilated, that is why I posted this pic. Also, it is all the way around the tree and seem it would be hard for a deer to get at it from every angle. Ive seen huge deer tracks this year but wasnt sure if this was a rub or a bear or something else. This is private property owned by my grandfather and no one goes back there besides me and him. Besides, I had to crawl under briars to a small open area in the middle of very, very thick brush. I dont know why someone would trespass on private property to make a rub way back in the middle of the woods where no one would even see it. If anyone has any further opinions...please post...

RE: Is this a buck rub or a Tasmanian Devil? (pic)
if its high and low, its probably just the bark falling off a dead tree. thats what it looks like if you look above teh "rub" looking thing could be a rub, but i'd have to see it first hand to decide. another reason i woudl say its not a buck is because none of the other trees are molested. there should be at least some antler marks on those trees. a good buck would probably rub them trees all up, not just pick one out and rub the heck outta that. i've never seen a little set of trees in which just one of them has had the snot rubbed out of it while the others stand there a ok.

RE: Is this a buck rub or a Tasmanian Devil? (pic)
It is probibly a buck. I was wondering also how it was so close to the other tree and still ripped on all sides. Big bucks tear up some mess. Good luck hunting him!!!

If thats a whitetail then I want to see the picture of him when you kill him, good luck....

RE: Is this a buck rub or a Tasmanian Devil? (pic)

RE: Is this a buck rub or a Tasmanian Devil? (pic)
Throw a game camera up, then you'll be able to share a picture of what it is with us. I'd say it's a buck, there is probably some way it could get it's antlers in there without destroying the other trees, just unusual. Hunt and take him and then we can see the pics, I'd like to see whatever did that! Good luck!

RE: Is this a buck rub or a Tasmanian Devil? (pic)
I've had a game cam on it for 2 days now and nothing has hit it. My grandfather says it looks like on old rub, but it looks pretty new to me.

RE: Is this a buck rub or a Tasmanian Devil? (pic)
That sure doesn't look like any rub I've ever seen. I'd say not a buck.
|
RE: Is this a buck rub or a Tasmanian Devil? (pic)
I think it's a rub for sure but I don't think it's from a buck with any kind of large spread, maybe a 4 or 6 point because the tree right next to it doesn't have a mark on it. Pics can be decieving but it looks as though it starts about 6-8 inches off the ground which tells me that it's definately a deer that did it, unless a chipmunk decided to sharpen it's claws. ;)
