Most likely you saw a Chupacabra (the goat sucker). I hate those little things. They are becoming more common in Florida and are spreading across the country.

We had a kid the other day kill a 39 lb bobcat, I had not ever seen a bobcat that big. I am in Southeast Virginia.

I seen a black cougar, panther, whatever they are in north alabama about 15 years ago. We were on top of bingham moutain on an isolated trail on 4 wheelers and he went across in front of us. We told the game warden and he didn't get excited. Don't know if he knew about them or thought we was a little bonkers but he didn't care to discuss it.

Someone reported a similar incident here in KY this year on another sight. Maybe 300 miles North of Central Alabama. And I was just getting used to close-up coyote situations during Spring Gobbler... now I've gotta get psyhed up for cougar?or whatever. Did you find any tracks? Any pics of the tracks? Never been for carrying a handgun to the woods but there is a first time for everything.

You probably did see a cougar. I live in Texas, which doesnt have much of a cougar population at all, and I have seen three in the last three years.
