RE: deer jerky proccesser

I agree do it yourself!!! I started with the oven(slow but worked) then switched to a American Harvest Electric Dehydrator (better and faster) and now have a propane smoker (awesome, fast and can do lots of jerky as well as many other things). Small investment is required but it will easily pay for itself and I find it enjoyable/rewarding.

I just made some pronghorn antelope jerky which finished making last night (you marinade for 24 hours then dry for 12 to 24 hours, depending upon the thickness of the "green meat"). I use "Hi-Mountain" jerky seasoning package that costs about $6.50 for a package suitable for seasoning/curing 15 LBS of green meat. I bought a dehydrator just this past Friday at Bass Pro Shops on sale for $20, but this can be done in your oven also. Very easy. Plus you get the satisfaction of making it yourself. I thawed two roasts and cut into slices I guessed were 1/4" thick (next time I'll cut thinner, the thicker slices take a long time to dry and the directions suggest the cure may not fully penetrate these thicker slices). It is really easy.
