RE: Hunting in rain
I hate hunting in the rain. The deer seem to bed down during rain storms and you get nothing but soaking wet. I could be wrong, but thats just my experience. I LOVE hunting when you get a light snow that just dusts the ground. I have shot a lot of deer when it's like that.

A friend of mine and I got on the stand before a heavy rain that was only supposed to last an hour or so. The rain stopped and a 10 pt walked out on him. Needless to say he did not walk much further. After we loaded him up the bottom dropped again. I have found they move a good bit right after a rain. But, I am new to this hunting thing so its just MHO.

RE: Hunting in rain
I LOVE hunting in the rain... of course, here in the Southeast, it's usually the rain that cools things off, instead of making you cold, miserable, and shivering. I think most people have discussed the positives and negatives...
- most deer will move the same, or possibly more, in light to moderate rain
- most deer activity will slow down in downpours
- therefore, it's good to be out just before a hard rain, and to sit through a hard rain that's about to break; then the deer activity will pick back up
- the sound of the rain means that their sense of hearing is impaired
- also, walking in the rain is quieter since you don't have dry leaves and branches to rustle and crack under your feet
- the heavy winds that sometimes accompany the rain will make deer very jittery
Enjoy every second you're in the wilderness.
