new deer hunter question

Hey guys

I love hunting, small and big game. I havent gotten deer yet, but been close. My question is, what do i do with the deer after i kill it. I know to field dress, but after i check it in, if i dont want it mounted. Then what?

I dont eat deer meat. Can i donate it somewhere?

Any advice is welcome.

thanx guys

Check with your states DNR. I know in WV they use it to feed homeless during the holidays.

It's the same way in Georgia we have the "Hunters for the hungry" where you can drop it off at several different processors. Check with DNR or their website online.....

do you eat the other animals you hunt? do you eat meat? if so, than why not deer--I know that I would crawl over a filet mignon to get to a skillet full of tenderloin w/gravy. anyway, you might also call local game processors and ask them about donating to the food banks--usually the best idea is to have all this worked out before pulling the trigger--so, hopefully you have not been riding around with a deer in the truck for a few days.

Why would you even shoot it if you have no plans to eat it? Rule #1 that I have tought my children. . . .you shoot it you eat it, period.

Don't give up hunting just because you don't like venison. Like the posts above. Donate it to the HFTH and know before hand what you are going to do with the meat. Ask around I think someone would love to have the meat! Please don't let it go to waste! Good luck in the woods!
