Effects of the moon

Does anyone if the moon effects the way the deer move? I would like to find out as soon as posible so I can get my first deer.

PS: I hunt in Northwestern Minnesota if that would make difference

RE: Effects of the moon

The more moonlight that is present, the more deer can move around at night to feed. Usually after a full moon, my early morning sightings of deer drop off and usually pick back up in the afternoon, between 10 and 2.

Are there any web sites that might go in to it more?

There are many out there, but here's one to get you started. www.kentuckygameandfish.com
Once you get onto the site, you can select the specific state you are from. Alot of good stuff on here.;)

It's the moon and the sun. I use a solunar table and they have proven to work for hunting and fishing.

The third program down is the one I use. It's free!

I also consider thweather in general. Like wind speed and direction. Sunny or overcast. Barometric pressure. YADAYADAYADA.

But when it comes right down to it you just got to hunt. Put the time in and don't worry about that stuff. It's interesting and may help once in a while, especially if you don't have a lot of time (You can look for the most active times in the coming week and pick your hunting days accordingly). But nothing beats being in the woods. You can't shoot them from your Lazyboy! LOL

I dont think the moon plays a huge role on deer movement. i wouldnt go on moon phases alone to get your first deer. Food, weather, and sex play a much more important role as far as movement goes. Just get out and hunt around food sources. you'll find the does there. a doe should be an easy first deer. the bucks will be around the does during the rut. basically, just find where the deer are at and hunt it. the moon isn't going to play a huge factor in getting your first one.

RE: Effects of the moon

2000 season (my first) my hunting "network" said full moon was a lousy time to hunt. Said the deer feed at night and bed down in day. Boy were they right. Nothing was moving the next day. Swore I'd never go in full moon again.

2001 season already had my buck two weeks before and went with another buddy to hunt during full moon. All the places we go were hoppin'!! Only reason he came back empty was being picky three times and a poor shot once.

2003 season I decided full moon was not so bad. Went hunting during full moon and saw almost nothing. Got my buck two weeks later in new moon.

This season, (yesterday), I'm hunting again in full moon week. Deer rutting everywhere I was legal to shoot. Got picky twice and on the third I hit the biggest buck in my four seasons at 10:30 am!

I think I will listen RomanWild. JUST HUNT!!
