RE: Need help tracking a deer ASAP
When I shot him he sat down, I shot AT him again, I dont know if I hit him or not in all the excitement, when I did that yes, he bounded off as in deer er hmmm Hopping ?
But in all seriousness, it probably took him no less then 10 seconds to stand up. I shot, he sat down, I lowered my rifle I thought that was it, and then he started trying to get back up, I reloaded my rifle, scoped him in and fired again. That doesnt sound like alot of time, but out in the field it is. Id guestimate at minimum he was sitting for about 10 seconds. |
RE: Need help tracking a deer ASAP
Bright red blood sounds like you cut an artery, spraying blood. If it clots up he may be gone. When you go back out carry a roll of tissue paper and at every blood spot or known track tear off a piece and place it on the evidence. As you retrace the trail it will make it easier to pick up the next blood.

What do you guys think about searching by the pond? Do you think he may have headed to it? The trail was leading right towards it, but there was no more blood 8(

RE: Need help tracking a deer ASAP
LostinSpace;
I hope you find your deer, but when you post for "help" it helps if you tell us where you live and where geographically your deer was shot. I have a pureblood Jagdterrier I trained to be a competent "bloodtrailer." I would gladly have helped locate your deer, but not knowing how close you are there is little I can do. I suggest you post for a hunter who has a trained bloodtrailing dog. That said, always wait a while to let a wounded deer lie down. In this case it would probably have settled down and blead out in a few mintues. Then use toilet paper to mark the bloodtrail and when at the end begin circling and looking in the thickest places you can find...Good luck! Al Barrs Florida Panhandle Region. |
