My 2004 Whitetail

I took this buck at 9:30 this morning which is opening day for the Saskatchewan whitetail rifle season. I was hoping for a much bigger buck but I haven't had much time this year for hunting with work taking up all of my weekends and everything. He presented a perfect broadside shot at about 75 yards and I couldn't pass it up. With all the CWD hunting going on in my zone, I wasn't sure how many bucks I would find that hadn't been chased around already. Here are a few picks that I took. The batteries in the camera went dead after 4 shots so this is the best that I have:

I was using a Remington Model 7600 pump chambered in .270. There aren't to many trees in my area of the country. No shortage of bucks though. This guys was chasing around does with 5 other bucks. One was a bit bigger but he wasn't cooperating.

That is just in your area, my zone has been open since the end of September. Don't mean to be a knob but i thought i should clear that up so folks don't think i have been poaching the last few months. enuff said..... Congrats on that deer though he has some real nice height to him.

Nice buck, pretty looking area. So do you hunt out of a blind? Behind hay bales or what?

My main method of hunting is spot and stalk. I was watching a few bucks from about a mile away and decided to get closer for a better look. There was a really nice wide and heavy 3x3 that I wanted to see better but he bedded down before I could get close enough. Then this guy got up and started following a doe. I was able to walk to within about 500 yards with whatever cover I could find then had to crawl about 300 yards using the weeds as cover. I then sat and waited as this guy slowly worked his way towards me while he was trying to figure out which doe to pursue. The is the first hunt that has gone totally as planned for me. My first 2 whitetail bucks that I took just happened to be out in fields feeding while I was on my way to my hunting spot.

Congrats! It is nice to see a few bucks(or deer for that matter) still around the speedy creek area!

Oh Hiawatha, rifle jumper season was actually open for you during rifle elk...you missed a few weeks bud;)
