somtimes friends can really
It was opening shotgun season in my state this weekend. I didnt get anything this weekend. I could of but I passed up on 4 pointer. Told my friend about it. He said why did you not take it. I said want him to hopefully get bigger. This really pissed me off what he said afterwards. You arent a good enough hunter to be passing up on deer. The last time I got a deer was 4 years ago when I started hunting.

I said want him to hopefully get bigger. This really pissed me off what he said afterwards. You arent a good enough hunter to be passing up on deer. A good hunter lets the deer get bigger. Thats what makes you a good hunter, you don't just shoot any thing that walks in front of you. |
RE: somtimes friends can really
the nerve of some people
hey you did good passing up that buck, maybe next year when he is a slammer he will come past you again;) |
RE: somtimes friends can really
Dont sound like a friend to me and wouldnt be after a remark like that!

RE: somtimes friends can really
Good job let them grow.Your friend is probably the kind that crys that he cant get a wall hanger. You are showing good dicipline. That is why I think every state needs some form of point restrictions.

RE: somtimes friends can really
Take it easy. You are building up some good hunting karma points there that your "buddy" doesn't even get. It takes more discipline to pass sometimes than to just shoot. Always be happy with your shot cause you can't take them back. Good job and happy hunting! Gary

I have been hunting in NH for 15 years and have only five harvest. 1 nice eight , a 7 and 3 buttons, one was with bow. I passed a four and a spike last year and let many does go by. Good for you! Your a great hunter.

Now now!! I think its great that some people pass up bucks. I dont think anybody should ever be ridiculed about it unless they are complaing that they never get anything. I also think there is nothing wrong with shooting the first thing that walks under your stand. That is what i do and i have no regrets. I have shot six deer in 5 years of hunting. It makes me a very happy hunter. I dont think states should have point restrictions. That just makes hunting harder because then you have to spend much time counting points and with deer it is a lot more diffacult then elk. If you want to pass up smaller deer, all the power to you, and good job on your dicipline, but dont make other people pass up slightly smaller deer.

You've gotta let them go if you want them to grow. Age is the biggest factor in determining antler size. A biologist at the range & wildlife meeting a while back gave a little presentation. His list of factors were:
1) Age 2) Age 3) Age 4) Nutrition 5) Genetics Sometimes its hard to show restraint, but you never reap the big rewards without making a few sacrifices. I would have been telling myself, "Must......restrain......from..........choking.... ....buddy......":D |
RE: somtimes friends can really
He thinks he has a right to say those things since he's your buddy! Don't worry about it! The hunters I admire are the ones who shoot does opening morning at the crack of light.

Don't allow the petty words of some people annoy you. You did the right thing for the right reasons and it is a sign of maturity and responsibility on your part.
