Will Coyotes chase or attack???

I have never had it happen but I have heard a few stories about coyotes chasing people. One guy had to climb a tree. I have killed a few coyotes but have never had an encounter with one. Has anyone had any encounters or heard any stories?

To my knowlegde, there has never been a single case of a healthy adult coyote attacking a human. I call coyotes quite a bit, and they run at the first sign of a human. Stories about coyotes chasing people are usually just that, stories. I have seen people panic and climb a tree or do other things to "escape", but the critter that was "after" them usually didn't even know they were there. It always gives me a good laugh to see somebody have a runaway from something harmless.

A good example was a guy that was out in the field picking up pecans with a 5 gallon bucket. A bull heard the bucket and came running. The guy went crazy trying to get away from that bull, but the more he ran, the closer the bull got. He liked to have killed himself diving over a fence to escape. He didn't know it, but all our cattle are trained to come to a bucket. When we pen them, we feed them a bucket of cubes. The bull thought the guy had a bucket of cubes, so he was hustling to get some feed. The bull was harmless, so all the guy had to do was stop and let the bull sniff the bucket. He would have lost interest and went away when he realized there were no cubes. The guy's imagination just got the best of him.

I havent had any experience first hand but have heard about callers being attacked from behind
while calling in yotes. I had one experience that me and a buddy were calling yotes and we had to sit back to back and I do believe that if we hadnt killed em all we would of been attacked. We killed 13 in less than an hour. That was when I lived in Kansas. I believe its possible.

I have heard that some of them will change form under a full moon, at that point, yes they are likely to attack. I have also heard that a silver bullet will stop them. Most likely they are more scarred of you than you are of them. I would worry more about the mountain lions!

My buddy had one run at him once, but he figured it thought he was a rabbit or something because he was in full camo...the second the yote figured out there wasnt a varmit there he turned on the jets and was gone.

yotes don't attack people ...period.

unless, of course, they have rabies.

I've seen a few that I suspected had rabies. But they weren't capable of chasing anything. They just slobbered and staggered around. They had the creepiest look in their eyes. It was like the lights were on, but nobody was home. So I turned off the lights.

Turkey hunting this past spring, I was sitting up against a tree with my back to a field. I was working 3 gobblers down to my left, and all of a sudden i heard something coming from my left and behind me. I thought it might've been the birds since often they circle around then come in. I sat there still, waiting for whatever it was to walk out in front of me, when I caught movement out of the corner of my eye. It was a coyote, and he was right on top of me, he practically brushed up against my jacket sleeve. I spun around to blow his head off, and before i could get my gun around he was out of there haulin balls. This has happened several times, but never this close, and they've always took off flying. I wouldn't worry too much. I thought my turkey hunt was over though, but I moved left about 100 yards inot the woods, and within 15 min. called the 3 gobblers in a downed one. :D

Mostly curious.

I had 3 come out at me while mowing once. Scared the daylights out of me. But they turned and ran away, just as fast as I did. I was only 12 or so then, first cyotes I ever saw.

When i was young my uncle took me out deer hunting. It was before daylight. We walked up through the pasture to the edge of the woods. He pointed to the area were the stand was in the woods. The evening before my cousin had killed a deer there. Well my uncle went on his way to his stand on the other end of the woods. So I walked into the woods And started looking for the stand, Never been to it before, and could not find it. So i ploped my ass down against a tree, little did i know it was right in front of were my cousin fielddressed his deer the evening before. I was sittin there in the dark and I heard so noise behind be thought it was probably a deer untill they started growlin. I about **** my pants. Because i could not see them .They was eatin the deer leftovers. Trying not to piss or **** down my leg i just sat still and let them so there thing and they eventually left. Soon as it was daylight you bet your ass i found that deer stand! I was just a kid at time, but if it happed again it probably would still make me pretty nervous.

There was a bowhunter attacked in Vermont about 10 years ago that was leaving his stand after dark and was covered in deer scent. It was all over the newspapers. I am sure the animal didn't know he was a human though........

A guy at camp where I hunt public land said that his friend had one growl at him, so he shot it. Maybe it had rabies??

I have seen coyotes in the woods a few times, and leave em alone. The other morning before sunup I heard a pack of them howling, which I thought was very cool. I have no reason to bother them. I know some guys shoot them because they think coyotes will impact the deer population, but I doubt it has much impact.
