From what I can tell from the pic, that is a younger buck. I say this by looking at the low top notch and the narrow face. I know its gonna be hard, but if you shoot every deer with antlers, like a lot of hunters, you will never see a deer of this size or bigger in your area. Get a picture of him while your hunting so you can tell your friends you pasted on him. It takes more of a hunter to let this buck go then it does to mow down every buck in the woods.

The way I see it if we let them all grow to be trophies then they wont really be tropies anymore! Be proud of any buck you take! It's not an easy task. I'm a deer hunter not a trophie hunter. Any antler hanging on my wall brings back the great memory of the hunt. Some of my favorite antlers are small crazy shaped 5's and 4's. Here in NJ finding any buck is hard enough. If I had a lot of time to hunt and I was in the big woods somewhere I might let the little guy's go but I don't! I'm an old school deer hunter and I'm just as proud of my 8 inch spiker as I am of my 3 mounted 8 pointers and last years split brow tine 9 point! Good luck to all of you in your quest for deer....Jim

He is a nice buck, but oneday if given the chance he will be a great buck. Would you rather take a good buck or a great buck?
