Grunting after the rut, is this a bad idea?

should grunt calls only be used during the rut? In my area of florida, the rut is over, though there will be a small amount of breeding at other times since florida does not have the pronounced rut as in other areas. I have read that using doe urine at times when does are not in rut will run bucks off so i am wondering if the same is true if i use my grunt call.

I have heard a buck grunt in January. Here in Jersey that is long after the main rut! If the buck / doe ratio is out of wack and you have a lot more doe's then bucks you can have a second, third even fourth rut with the doe's that didn't get knocked up the first time round.....I don't think grunting would spook a deer off thats not rutting but he may not be interested either....Good Luck

You must be in south Florida if the rut is already over for you. This week I have had 3 different spotted fawns in my yard with their unbilical cords still attached.

If the rut is over and those bucks arent thinkin about does anymore then its a good time to hunt food sources. The rut really drains those bucks. This is a great time to bait an area or hunt a food plot.

The deer's grunt is like the turkey's cluck; it's a locator call used year-round. You hen talk to attract gobblers, so why not doe talk to attract bucks?
I have a much higher response rate with the girl talk.

Like swampbird said a grunt is a form of vocalization, if you stick to the short grunt know as a contact grunt it will be fine. As would a normal doe bleat or fawn bawl, these are sounds deer make all year long and should not threaten them in any way.
