Southern Tradition...1st Deer
The Piedmont Hunt Club of SC, carries on the Traditional "Blooding" of a first deer harvested hunter's face. This ritual is viewed as a must by young hunters that view it as acceptance into the Hunter ranks. Here a youth hunter is "Bloodied" in the tradition. He will receive a Hunter Achievement Award and the head be mounted, if he wishes.

We use to do that all the time, but eventually started letting it slide. One boy about 14 years old killed his first day and started crowing about nobody was going to bloody him. About 6 of us caught him and tied him to a pecan tree and not only bloodied him, but wrapped the guts around his neck and left him there for awhile.

We do the same thing at our camp. Male, Female, young or old it doesnt matter. Personaly I think if your too quimish to get a little blood on you then maybe you should take up golf.

RE: Southern Tradition...1st Deer
We used to cut the shirt tail off their shirt and hang it on the clubhouse wall. Lost that clubhouse in a flood and the tradition never picked back up after we rebuilt. Plus we hunt a lease and there is a very low turnover rate so we don't get many new hunters in anymore.
