Help with Stand

I was ready to purchase a climberr for a tree stand, then a couple of people told me how dangerous they are. Therefore, I have not moved to purchase one. I hunt on public land so a ladder stand is out. What is my next safest stand. I am led to believe it is a climbing stick with a hang on stand. Is this correct? What would you recommend for a hang on stand. I am looking for a lite stand that is "safe". As you can tell, I don;t particluarily like heights in the first place. Thank you, a confused deer hunter.

I feel safer in my Summit Viper {climber} than any stand I have ever been in.

I use my API, and will ne getting a Summit soon, what model not sure yet !!!!!! Climbers are safe, I climb up/down with no problems. My 1st climber was a Loggy Byou, I loved it, but that API or Summits once you get to your height they lock right in there, and they don't move. You need to practice with it

I agree, a good quality climber feels VERY secure and can be very safe when used properly. I would always go with a climber over a hang-on stand as far as safety goes. Regardless what you go with, ALWAYS wear a good safety harness and take the time to practice with the stand until you feel safe!

i purchased the Summit Viper X4. I feel completely safe in this stand. As long as you wear the harness, i think that the climbers are very safe. I would rather be climbing with one of the climbers then climb the shaky ladder on a ladder stand.

RE: Help with Stand

Climbers in my opinion are safe BUT get a climber that allows easy installation of the pins into the stand, throw the cable, and back into the stand. That's the only catch with climbers...some are real easy to adjust at any heights and others (like the one I bought) you have to muscle. Basically the one I bought is alright but would be great if the adjustment wasn't so hard to make. You know what I mean?
