Hunting Whitetail with hounds

Hello all.

We have been hunting in Canada with hounds. We had our other hounds pass away 3 years ago so last year i went and bought and trained two new pups. One pup is a purebred Redbone and the other is a 4 hound cross(bluetick, beagle, redbone, blk&tan).Last year they were just 5months old and 7 months old when we hunted and they started 21 chases. We got 3 deer.

Does anyone else hunt with hounds? Is alot more exciting these days when you hear the howling at 7am to start the day.

I dog hunted for about 30 years and had many good packs of hounds. With the different laws in place now and the inability to lease enough land to dog hunt without disturbing other people we stopped dog hunting about 5 years ago. I truely enjoyed it.

Where I hunt dogs are not allowed. Can't even have one with you in the truck.

Not trying to make any one mad, but just a question. Is that really hunting, using dogs? Not my idea of hunting. Does not seam fair to the deer.

I have never done it but it does seem like an unfair advantage although it would be great in my case as I am disabled and cant get around very good. I am forced to hunt from my vehicle and it wont go in the woods very good. Plus the fact I only have public land to hunt and the gov frowns on vehicles in there woods!

It is not as easy as it seems. Man will always have some advantage over any animal. It comes with being at the top of the food chain.

I live in SE Virginia where hunting with dogs has been going on forever. Some people may think it is unfair, but then again I think shooting an unsuspecting deer from 300 yards with a high powered rifle isn't exactly "hunting." We also bow and blackpowder hunt which are a little more primitive.

Dog hunting here is also a shotgun only season. No rifles, just shotguns loaded with buckshot. True, it is not as "fair-chase" as bow hunting, but hearing those beagles or walkers early in the morning is not something you will soon forget.

JMO . . .but to me if you want to use dogs why not just set the woods on fire and wait on the other side. . . seems just about as sporting. I know we try to provide positive feed back in these forums but I just can't get my arms around using dogs to hunt for you.

Sorry. . .[:'(]

Some people just don't get it. Why not get rid of all your weapons, clothing and gagets and go out and kill deer with your bare hands if you want sporting? You ever even hunted with dogs to see what its like? Nothing at all like setting fire to the woods.

I have never hunted with hounds. Here in Nebraska, it is illegal to hunt with hounds. You can't even bait/feed deer here.
