RE: Loads for deer
For your 06' anything in the 150-165 grain class will adequately take out any deer.
I hand load them for my father in law and his specific rifle ( a sporterized 1903 A3 .30-06) likes the 168 grain. Specifically the Combined Technologies "lube-lox" coated ballistic-tips. Your going to find out that every rifle no matter what the make is going to have it's own likes and dis-likes when it comes to ammunition. Get yourself a few boxes of different brands and weights and spend a day at the range. You will be able to determine which will perform the BEST for you and your rifle.:) |
RE: Loads for deer
I use 180 grain Fed premium nosler partitions. The main reason I use this heavy bullet is because my 110 savage will shot 1 inch groups. In fact most of the 180 grain bullets will shoot good groups with this rifle. The 150's and 165's shoot terrible out of my gun. My advise is to shoot what your rifle is the most accurate with. HH CG

RE: Loads for deer
ORIGINAL: minnesotahunter I'm relatively new to hunting (2 years) and just recently bought a rifle. In the past I've borrowed, and absolutely could not do that again. Anyway, I've got a .30-06 and I'm wondering what grain and bullet type would you recommend for whitetail deer in an area that's thick woods with few openings and almost every shot is under 100 yards? I'm thinking 150 grain, but I have no idea what type of bullet. and I can use either standard Federal, or Rem. Core-Lokt in mine also. No need for premium ammo for whitetials. |
