deerhunter 1224,

For me, it's a year round obsession. Just gets more intense as the season nears.

Good luck in the coming months.

Only from Mar 15 to the end of April for turkey, then October for moose & November for deer. The rest of the year I just read, plan & think about it along with spending some time at the range. Hell NO! - it doesn't consume my life. gg.

Welllllllllll I am a 43 year old wife and mom and I am on a hunting site instead of chatting with my friends so yea i guess it does. And the only shopping I enjoy doing is in a sporting goods store. The only magazines i subscribe to are hunting magazines. If it isnt 4 wheel drive i dont own it. And it better have room to load a deer or 2. So yea I guess it does just a little bit.

I wouldn't say that hunting consumes my life but I just enjoy the whole outdoors experience through several hobbies. In the spring and summer months you'll likely find me bass fishing on a lake or river somewhere or riding my mountain bike on a rail trail and in the fall in winter months mostly deer hunting. I also enjoy hiking with my family and going on long drives in the mountains to take in the fall colors. Given the choice though I'd like to be perched high in an oak tree in my portable stand with a bow in my hand and the sun coming up over the ridge and the sound of falling acorns and squirrels barking in the background. Fall is my favorite time of the year and it's here and although life is good, it's about to get a whole lot better. Man, I'ts starting to sound like hunting consumes my life. Happy Huntin everyone...

Yes hunting consumes my life. I've made choices in jobs, living location and such that directly allow me more time to hunt. I know I could make much more money at a better job in my field, but this one allows me 4 weeks vacation and a bit of flexibility to hunt after work each night. Sometimes I struggle with the decision to find a better job in order to be able to buy land, but then I question what good is land, when I wouldn't be able to hardly ever use it. I focus my life around hunting, I don't just fit hunting in when i have time.

I live 8months outta the year so i can hunt the other 4!!!! I always said there are two things in my life that if they get in the way of hunting they have to go, and that is my girlfriend and work. Well the girlfriend is moving out on october 15, and work just approved my vacation. I am single now, but i still have a job and able to hunt all year, oh yea baby!!:D

Gosh I bow and gun hunt, shoot I hunt anything I can get my hands on a tag for. I've hunted every game animal imaginable in north america except for caribou and moose. I even hunt varmints.

i could change jobs and make approx 30k more per year. but i would not be able to hunt 60 days a year either. so that is the trade off. call me crazy, but i love being able to hunt 60 days a year. i look at like this(to my wife, ANYWAY ) i dont drink, do drugs, or anything so you can call my obsession w/ whitetails a VICE.

right now work is pretty much consuming my life, i thought when i started my own business it would be fantastic..........but it's not. i work more now than i ever did when i was working for someone else. i love to hunt, hate to work, but my priorities need taken care of first.

RE: does hunting consume your life

I'll have to admit that I spend a lot of time thinking about, reading about, and planning hunts, but it is only for a couple of months in the fall, and then I only spend a week or so hunting - some few days bird hunting and some few days either deer or moose hunting (rarely both).

But when it comes down to it, it's just one of many outdoor and indoor hobbies I have and doesn't take up any more thought or effort than others, actually 3rd or 4th on the list after xc skiing, general boating (float and motor), hiking, and music.

I do love deer hunting and moose hunting, but the end goal is the venison and although I really enjoy the time in the woods doing that, I end up making it as efficient as possible since I have so many other things I love to spend time and $$ on!

Obsessed with hunting....LOL. The only time I don't think of hunting is when I'm fishing. But then if I see a flock of geese or a raft of dive ducks on the lake, then I'm thinking hunting again. I hunt year around. If it isn't varmint or predator's, then it's turkey hunting. Then I a knock on the door to the woodchucks all summer. Then small game starts. It never ends. AND I LOVE IT!!!
