LURING IN DEER
I'M HUNTING A SMALL PATCH OF WOODS WITH VERY LITTLE TO NO DEER MOVEMENT. BUT THERE ARE DEER WITHIN 1/4 MILE OF MY HUNTING SPOT. HOW DO I GET THEM IN AND KEEP THEM VISITING THE AREA? I'VE TRIED CORN, PERCIMENS, AND SWEET SYRUP MIXED WITH CORN. SQUIRRELL AND RACOONS LOVE IT BUT NO DEER. ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

RE: LURING IN DEER
Try 10 or 12 bushels of apples in a pile along with a couple of salt licks. That ought to do it for you.
I have seen it work for other guys. Clint |

RE: LURING IN DEER
Do like Clint said. It may be a bit late now but start a mineral site. I highly recommend the powder deer cocaine. Rake out an area and pour it out. The rain will do the rest. They may not hit it immediatley but if you apply it a few times a year, they will make it a point to move through there. They need it most in the spring and throughout the summer though. If your land is to open, make some thickets. You can do this by clearing out the older lumber and piling up limbs, trees, etc. Its hard to attract and hold deer with only a few weeks work and time. If you need any more info, let me know. (I had the same problem on a 15 acre tract my buddy and I now hunt regularly.)

RE: LURING IN DEER
Before you start putting out any kind of food to pull deer in, be sure to check your local regulations. Here in Minnesota it's not legal to use bait such as apples, corn, etc; can use salt licks, though.

RE: LURING IN DEER
sweet potatoes work real well too. the deer like them after the rot. try planting some turnips the deer love them and they are easy and withstand frost.
