Large Capacity Tripod Game Feeders
i need to build a few corn feeders using 55 gallon drums and mount them on a tripod. i would like to buy a quality electric timer spreader, but don't know what's best 6 volt, 12 volt, or solar powered.
i have seen "kits" in hunting magazines, but i was wondering if anyone has built there own tripod mounted container and then bought a quality electric feeder?

I think the brand I have been using on my feeders for the past few years is Spincast, no matter though. 6VDC, change the battery once a year or add a solar charger for a few bucks more. Basspro or Cabelas both have a few to choose from. What ever one you pick make sure you can set multiple feedings and don't through to much each time 4/5 seconds is plenty. If you feel the need to try other feeds such as antler max etc. buy the moisture resistant type. the dust from these pellets will clog the throat of the feeder over time. Corn never does this. If your doing it for this gun season you better get going. I trun my feeders year round but a few weeks before the season will give them time to start coming around. The big bucks may never actually come under your feeder. So set up where you can see some trails 20/30 yards back in the cover where the bucks might be checking out the girls at the feeder.

Spincast has good stuff, just in there yesterday. My timers are from Texas Hunter, and I use a 6 volt system. You can get a good timer/motor/battery for about $100 to $125. Buy them in january/Febuary and you can get them on sale for $75 or so.

Sure I guess a gravity feeder might work, but don't they allow the feed to be had at any time? When you use the timers you set it to go off for a few seconds at 30 minutes or so after first light and then 30 minutes or so at the end of your day. This way the critters will set there watches by this and help you out sometimes.

I built a couple of feeders last year and used High Country, New Day feeders. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/te...&cm_ite=srchdx
You could use 55 gal. barrel as well. Here is one of my feeders. http://www.racksnspurs.com/\images\feeder.jpg
