My boys been in the field with me since he was three. He's started shooting last year (dove, ducks). I'm taking him on his first rifle deer hunt (where he can shoot) on Oct. 9th.

He's also been shooting a bow since he was 5, he's 9 now.

I've taken my son out a few times each year since he was 4. He is now 8 and I bought him his first rifle - a .243 Harrington and Richardson single shot youth model scoped with a 3-9 40mm. He loves shooting it and does a great job. Last weekend we put out a ladder stand we'll hunt from. I'm praying the opportunity presents itself. We're on new land, which looks promising.

:) Man thats great to see kids out like that. Their are alot of kids don't know what they are missing till is gone. Its my sons first year to hunt he helped plant food and set mineral blocks/salt blocks and he 16. Also my Daughter at 6 is going to hunt this year {Mom don't like the idea} but this is the year she'll kill the big one. I've gotten to shoot a 22-250. But THATS DADDYS GIRL!!!:D

I carried my two grandsons last year and they are already looking forward to going more this year. I also got them a breech loaded .243, put on an old (but good) scope and have had them shooting some. Should be able to get both of them at least one deer apiece this year.

Well guys, I think that we all should try to get friends and family involved. It is so nice to hear that others are taking their children/grandson/daughters out.

I went on a deer hunt one time, and thats all it took for me. I was addicted to it since then!

I also see that most of you have .243's for your younger chaps. My little sister has shot my fathers Remington 742 in 30-06 and did very well, hit a milk container at 100 yards. I was thinking about getting her a .243 so she get even MORE involved since she has her "own" gun :D

Thats great!!! Glad to see she is having fun:D Howver if we are going to take our kids shooting and doing these things we have to teach them "MUZZLE AWARENESS"! That rifle is pointing in the wrong direction, it should be down range in the other direction, and where is her hearing protection????? LETS TRAIN EM RIGHT, AND TRAIN EM SAFE! GOOD LUCK

I have 2 daughters and neither are interested in hunting but I've spent a lot of time outdoors fishing, hiking and riding mountain bikes with them. Although they weren't interested in my sport I took interest in theirs and spent countless hours at track and cross country meets, basketball and softball games and I cherish those memories. However, a few years back I introduced a neighbor's kid to hunting and he's hooked for life. His dad was a truck driver and spent a lot of time on the road and didn't get to take him hunting as often as I could. The kid killed his first squirrel, rabbit, and deer hunting with me. I also taught him how to skin and properly care for the meat after the hunt. I didn't realize it at the time how much this ment to him but now he calls me almost every weekend from Ft. Bragg, NC to talk about the upcoming season. He's probably gonna be in Iraq within 3 months and I'm sure when he calls home or writes he'll remind me again how special those days were to him. I know they sure were special to me.
