This is going to be another awesome year down here. Last year was great, but I think this year its going to be better. I havent been seeing alot of mature bucks, there staying in the brush and not coming to the corn or food plots. But I have seen alot of 3 1/2- 4 1/2 year old bucks, and alot of them have really nice racks especially considering there age. I guess I'll have to wait for the rut and/or the first good freeze until those mature bucks start coming out into the open and allow me to see exactly what we have running around.

Fluffy is a 4 1/2 year old ten pointer, and pretty much as dumb as a box of rocks. Gonna be some book deer taken off the ranch this year. Just curious, what ranch/county you hunting in? My buddy took a "near book" buck last year on his Maverick co. ranch. The deer grossed 183" and netted 169" as a typical :(. He really got hammered on the score because of his 10" right brow tine and his 6" left brow plus he had a 9" split G2 (like a muledeer) and only had a 16" spread. But we have our eyes on 2 bucks that are going to be real close to making the book as typicals. I guess we will just have to wait and see what the season brings, I can hardly wait until that first good cold front. :D |

Believe it or not, I hunt Edwards county! 17000 acre ranch. Can't say much more, my buddys don't want to get outbid! Basicly, we hunt the season for what a weekend hunt runs in the south. These mounts and sheds all came from there, except for the one on the end facing away. It's a Mexican buck.

Those are some great looking mounts, the taxidermist did a great job. That mexico buck has got some main beams on him and the buck in the middle of the top roll looks really nice.
South Texas gets most of the credit for big bucks, but there are alot of good deer through out the state, just look at the txbiggameawards website. But best of luck to you this season 17,000 acres is alot of ground to cover :) Good hunting..... |
