As some of you may remember, this is my first year of seriously getting into deer hunting after being taken once last year as a guest.

Anyway, I joined my own lease here in Florida where the deer are few and small. You really need to work pretty hard for the few deer you get. Our lease has 10 members with three buck tags and two doe, each. So far, we have shot three respectable bucks and four doe. The point I am trying to make is, my lease, like a lot of Florida leases, are tough to hunt and I have become frustrated.

However, as of today, I now bagged my first buck. I have worked very hard to learn the sport and pay some dues and it finally paid off. Nothing too impressive, but by Florida standards, not a bad buck. It weighed 140lbs, had a 13 3/4 inside spread and 7 points. Interestly, I finally gave up on bucks since our season ends in two weeks, so I was doe hunting. I was slip or still hunting and ran across a doe. I put the crosshairs on her but noticed she had offspring and did not want to take the shot. Next thing I know, my buck shows up, chasing the doe. It was really pretty exciting to watch. We just came into the second and smaller rut so he was a little foolish.

This is the second respectable buck I have seen since hunting began in September with bow season. The first buck was seen last evening, but he saw me moving and ran like heck.

Anyway, I was proud of the results.
